The Fleet Reserve Association, Kempsville Branch 99 announces the Annual National Americanism Essay Contest for Grades Seven through Twelve as stated in the Constitution and Bylaws of the Fleet Reserve Association. This National Essay contest gives each participant an opportunity to express his or her views on Americanism ideals. The Overall National winner or winners will be recognized by the National Americanism/Patriotism chairman in Alexandria, Virginia. The theme “WHAT THE UNITED STATES FLAG STANDS FOR” has been selected for the organization year 2008 ~ 2009. Entries from Virginia Beach, VA and Branch 99 family members will be submitted to the Branch Americanism/ Patriotism Chairman, Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 99 and postmarked not later than l December 2008 for judging at the Branch level. Mailing address: Kempsville Branch 99, Fleet Reserve Association, 357 Edwin Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. Students from other areas and states can go to www.fra.org to find their local sponsoring branch offices. A Fleet Reserve Association member or Branch must sponsor all entries. At the local level at Branch 99, Awards of a $500 Bond will be given to all first place winners in grades 7 through 12, a $200 Bond to all second place winners in grades 7 through 12 and a $100 Bond for all third place winners in grades 7 through 12. One Overall Winner will be selected from the first place winners in all grades 7 through 12 and will be awarded a $1,000.00 Bond. All 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive a nice certificate of participation and a nice plaque. The Branch Americanism/Patriotism Chairman will forward the Branch first place winners to the Regional Americanism Chairman for grading at that level. All first place winners at the Regional level will be forwarded to the National Americanism Chairman for grading and awarding at the National Level. The Chairman of the East Coast Region shall prepare and award to each first place winner in grades 7 through 12 a $200 bond and the overall winner will receive a $500 bond in lieu of a $200 Bond. The Overall Winner at the National level will receive a $15,000 Bond. The Chairman of the National Americanism/Patriotism Committee shall submit to the editor of “FRAtoday” magazine a list of Essay Contest Winners and a copy of the Overall Winning Essay for publication in the “FRAtoday” The Fleet Reserve Association Americanism Essay Contest Rules and Mandatory format guidelines for the essay personal information cover sheet are attached to the essay. Only one cover sheet per person may be registered in the essay contest per year. Please find enclosed two posters (one for the National and one for Branch 99), contest rules, judging guidelines, cover sheets (which may be reproduced if not enough).
